Second Victory in Dublin in a month for Coláiste Iognáid Rowing Club
The Coláiste Iognáid Men's Junior Eight recorded their second victory in a month on the banks of the Liffey this weekend. Following on from their success at the picturesque Dublin Head under the bridges of the Liffey in March, the Corrib-men followed it up with victory in the Junior Men's Eight at the Neptune Regatta this Saturday.
Seven crews entered this premier event. There were two crews from the newly formed Blackrock College Rowing Club coached by Irish Olympian Eugene Coakley, and crews from Athlone, Carlow, Dublin and Cork. The Jes received a “by” into the semi-final where they beat Athlone by a canvas over the 1,200 metre course. In the final the Galwegians beat a strong Carlow crew by one foot in the closest race of the day. This is the first time in over 20 years that the Jes have won this event at the famous Neptune Regatta.
Next up for the Jes Junior Eight is the International Junior Regatta in Ghent Belgium at the beginning of May, followed by the prestigious Anderson Cup at the Galway Regatta that will be raced against old rivals Bish and Galway Rowing Club. www.circ.ie
