RUGBY 2010/2011
The Rugby Club had another very successful year. The highlight had to be the regaining of the Senior Cup from Sligo Grammar who had beaten us in the final last year. After going down to two early tries in the first half prospects for a victory seemed in doubt. But in a comeback almost as good as Leinster’s more recent effort the Jes came storming back to dominate the second half and take their sixth title in the last ten years and their tenth overall.
Jes Win Connacht Rugby Cup
Colaiste Iognaid wrestled the Connacht Cup back from old rivals, Sligo Grammar, in a close contest in Galway Sportsgrounds on 9th March 2011.
Sligo dominated the first half and only a late try by Iognaid gave them a glimmer of hope. The second half saw a transformed Jes side who went on to win concincingly, 23-13.
