A New Era at the Jes

School Refurbishment and Extension
The School refurbishment and extension is back on track after the major setback caused by Cordil going into receivership.  The preparations for the re-tendering process are currently underway with new architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings being prepared. Contractors will be back on site by St. Patrick's Day.

This major school refurbishment and extension will provide Jes pupils now and into future generations with a renewed and rejuvenated school campus that is up to date, yet steeped in tradition and ethos. The school community has raised considerable funds over the past number of years, and are now embarking on a drive to bring this long awaited project to completion. €2 million is needed and the school is calling on all its friends, parents, staff, supporters and alumni to help raise funds.

For over ten years, the Board of Management has been pursuing the development of the Sea Road campus. Care was given to the selection of suitable sites for the O’Reilly Building and the Jesuit community residence in order to maintain space for a major central campus building. This new building, which will open onto Sea Road will incorporate and preserve the Andrew’s building and become the entry point and hub for school life.

The urgent upgrading and refit of the Griffin building, (now over 40 years old) is included in the current project. Once completed, the new facilities together with extensive site works, will provide for the needs of a modern second level college that serves 650 students and staff.

Following extensive needs assessments and planning, the Board has secured a commitment of €4.5 million in capital funding from the Department of Education and Skills toward a construction and fitout cost of €6.7 million.

Schedule of Accommodation

  • Andrews Building and Andrews Extension

Griffin Building
The project will also involve the refurbishment of the Griffin Building (now over 40 years old) including the entrance hallway, 17 classrooms as well as special laboratories for arts, languages and a remedial teaching centre.

Site Improvements
The development and restoration of the entire site following construction will provide for a new sports field at the centre of the campus. A new student courtyard will be created between the A ndrews Extension and the Church.

Quality and Environmental considerations
BDP Architects have chosen materials for the building, which are suitable for the heavy wear and tear of school life, but with artistic heritage of the site and longevity and environmental considerations to the fore.
